Garth... next time you cross paths with Darcy, tell him to trade Stafford to Minnesota for Dany Heatley. Here is my reasoning:

A. Both teams need to give each player a new start elsewhere, as they've worn out their welcome in their current digs

B. Stafford is owed $4 million each of the next 2 seasons ($8 million total) and Heatley is in the final year of his contract at $7.5 million. Wild could use the extra cap space this season at the trade deadline and the Sabres could either move Heatley at the deadline for a pick and/or prospect or let him walk if he doesn't work out in Buffalo.

C. Heatley could either play opposite of Vanek, alongside Hodgson, to actually give the Sabres a complete 1st line... taking pressure off of the younger guys on 2nd and 3rd lines. Or, the Sabres could put Heatley on 2nd line to provide more balanced scoring... although, since Heatley is no longer the player he used to be, my thoughts are that he would perform much better with Vanek and Hodgson taking the opponents attention off of him.

D. The Wild would actually consider this because who better to try to revive Stafford's career than his close friend Zach Parise? Stafford would raise his game playing closer to home and with one of his closest friends. Worst case scenario, they rid themselves of Heatley who simply has not met their expectations when they acquired him from the Sharks... and they gain the cap space this year and have Stafford's contract (or buyout option) next year with increased cap.

E. Sabres fans lose their scapegoat and potentially see a revival from Heatley... if not, then a draft pick or one-year rental who can probably teach a few goal-scoring tips to the young guys.

With him being a repeat offender I can see him getting alot, despite the fact that Jack Johnson wasn't injured.

Looking at our schedule, it's not crazy to think we'll start the year with 10 losses.
